The main task of the assistants (FDP) position is to co-ordinate QNH, code-callsign and flight plan information to the radar displays. Data for these functions may be entered locally, or via an interface to external services such as CCDS (for code/callsign pairs), AFTN or a Met station.

The Assistant's Position provides:

• CCDS Interface
• QNH Data Entry
• Meteorological System Interface (PAMOS Vaisala, Metcom, SAMOS)
• Movements logging
• Local flight data processing, including repetitive flight plans and code/callsign database
• AFTN Interface (via Gateway)
• Flight Strip Production

If necessary, flight strip and movement log printers can be added at any time. In its co-ordination only role, the assistant's position is normally unmanned.
