Black Kite Towed Target

The Black Kite Towed Target is an airborne threat simulation system used in a range of engagement scenarios. The target can be configured for use against a very wide variety of missile and gun systems. Typical tug aircraft in use currently are the Falcon 20 and Learjet, and targets are towed at cable lengths up to 9km. The major configurations in use are designated the Mk1 and Mk2, the latter having the facility for active control of its height. An all-moving wing and control loop are designed to enable precision flight at sea-skimming heights. This unique facility allows for flight down to 5m amsl and permits datum height changes whilst airborne. Both types are able to carry a wide range of payloads including miss distance indicators and signature enhancement devices.
