Flight Refuelling Limited's expertise in the field of drogue design and manufacture spans over 50 years. Our conical canopy drogues are the most durable, versatile and flight stable units available today.
Whilst the refuelling pod is at the heart of the refuelling system, it is the drogue that allows contact to be made with the receiving aircraft and successful refuelling to take place.
All of our drogues have our unique 'low Foreign Object Damage' construction which eliminates any parts that would cause receiver engine damage in case of breakage.
Two different types of drogue are currently available; fixed and variable geometry.
Fixed Geometry Drogue
With a Fixed Geometry Drogue the drogue area remains the same once deployed and the faster the tanker's speed, the higher the drag. This type of drogue is ideal if all receivers to be refuelled fly at a similar speed. Each drogue is designed to a certain speed envelope.
Variable Geometry Drogue
Our Variable Geometry Drogue is the only one of its type in the world. Its patented design allows the drogue area to decrease with speed. Both low and high speed aircraft can be refuelled from the same pod in the same sortie.
