Aerial Refuelling Probes

If an aircraft needs to be refuelled in mid air it has to have an interface point. Flight Refuelling Limited has for many years now been at the leading edge of refuelling probe design and manufacture. A comprehensive range of fixed, retractable and semi-retractable refuelling probes are readily available to suit customer requirements. Advanced design and build techniques are employed to provide light weight, robust probes that can accommodate high rate fuel delivery.

Probe length can be varied to suit customer specification but typically can extend as much as 9 feet (2.75 metres) to allow clearance of blades on rotary aircraft. Also full retraction can be achieved to reduce drag or allow for aircraft stowage onboard ship.

Amongst the aircraft using FRL probes are the BAE Systems/Boeing AV8B Harrier, SAAB Gripen and most recently V22 Osprey.

The development of our fully telescopic probe for V-22 represents a significant advance in product development. Further enhancements to the system are being analyzed for both future manned and unmanned aircraft.
